Autism Diagnostic Assessment in Bedford

Autism Therapy

It can be daunting to reach out for Autism Diagnostic Assessment, and we understand that so we're here to help. More that 1 in 100 people have Autism. This can affect people in different ways and can highlight strengths but also some challenges.

Before we provide any assessment we believe an initial consultation is required and from this we will discuss whether an Autism Spectrum Diagnostic assessment is required. We are an ethical assessment service so we will only provide an assessment if we feel there is a need.

Our Autism Diagnostic Assessments are evidenced based and use internationally recognised assessment tools. At Cognition we use the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule – Version II (ADOS-II).

We also take a very detailed developmental history and combine this with previous medical and school reports to ensure a complete and robust assessment.

We do not prescribe a time limit for this assessment and we will work with you for as long as it is required to complete. Following the assessment you will receive a fully detailed diagnostic report outlining our findings and conclusions.

Learning Disability Diagnostic Assessment in Bedford

In order to ensure our Learning Disability Diagnostic assessments meet the full internationally recognised diagnostic criteria we break down our assessment into three stages:

We offer a full cognitive assessment using internationally recognised assessment tools. For assessments for children up to 16 years of age we use the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children – Version V (WISC-V). For assessments for adults or children age 16 and over we use the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale – Version IV (WAIS-IV).

In addition to a cognitive assessment, in order to meet the full diagnostic criteria for a Learning Disability we offer a comprehensive assessment of adaptive functioning using the Adaptive Behaviour Assessment System – Version III (ABAS-III). A comprehensive assessment often relies on multiple perspectives so we may ask for you to complete a self-assessment (or one on behalf or your child) and for an assessment to be completed by someone who knows you or your child well such as a parent, relative or teacher.

Finally, we also take a very detailed developmental history and combine this with previous medical and school reports to ensure a complete and robust assessment.

We do not prescribe a time limit for this assessment and we will work with you for as long as it is required to complete. Following the assessment you will receive a fully detailed diagnostic report outlining our findings and conclusions.
